Hey CB Plus, in this video we are going demonstrate how to spray primer sealer, waterborne base coat and clear coat.  The video is a little shaky because I was in the booth with the GoPro, but it is actual time to give you an idea of the speed, distance and technique used.

Seriously, next time you’re spraying think in your head that you’re a robot and see if it makes a difference.  It may not do anything for you, but it’s not going to hurt anything…it’s worth a try.

Every spray gun is a little different.  Most technical data sheets will say 10 PSI at the air cap for HVLP spray guns.  The only problem is that most spray guns do not have gauges on the air cap.  We use a regulator at the inlet of the gun and set the air pressure there.  So in order to get the 10 PSI at air cap will vary depending on the spray gun.  For example, on the DeVilbiss Tekna, it takes 24 – 26 PSI at the regulator.  The Iwata Super Nova takes 18 – 22 at the regulator.

Keep in mind that every gun may vary when setting up the recommended settings.  Then of course, like I mention in the basic spray gun training lesson, fine tune the settings to fit your style.  Set the gun to work for you….not you adjusting your technique to fit the gun.

Here are the spray guns and air dryer we used in the video.  These are probably not the guns for DIYers who may only spray once or twice a year due to cost, but may be worth it to someone who sprays often.  Also, I doubt DIYers will want to invest in a dedicated clear coat gun.  Yeah, this is ideal, but not practical if you’re spraying one or two cars a year.  Let me know of you have any questions.
