I have found the combination of distance and speed to be the most difficult challenge when learning to spray. However, if you do not overlap each pass the recommended amount, you may not achieve the correct mill thickness. This may result in not enough mill thickness or too much mill thickness. It may also lead to inconsistent passes and give the paint a striped effect.
As mentioned, this is an easy fix. Simply read the technical data sheet for the product being sprayed. For example, most solvent paints recommend a 50% overlap. To achieve this, overlap each pass 50%. Waterborne recommends 75% overlap. This is going to overlap each pass 25% more than the solvent paints.

- Answer: I would start out with full fluid (fluid valve backed out to max) then adjust from there. Adjust about a quarter turn at a time until you get the fluid you are wanting. - Answer: That is a good question I should have addressed. Yes, you will need to get an adapter fitting for your specific gun, but I think they make them for all guns. - Answer: IF you get closer you will need to speed up and if you are further away you will need to slow down. For example, when spraying the center of a hood, it may be hard to have the gun at the same distance. In this case the gun may be further away and you must move slower. Does this help?
