Tip For Replacing Broken Bumper Tabs

April 22, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Most accidents involve the front-end and back-end of the car.  With the exception of t-bone accidents, hail damage, and other minor damage that can occur from the parking lot.  However, many accidents damage the front and rear bumper cover.

Bumper covers have tabs that break frequently during accidents.  In fact, a broken mounting tab may be all that is wrong with the bumper cover.  Before deciding to replace the bumper cover, check out this tutorial for repairing broken mounting tabs.

Many times it may require removing the bumper cover to perform the repair, but it is possible to repair the tab without removing the bumper cover.  This is going to depend on the individual cover and the location of the damage.

Take a few minutes to watch the demonstration to learn how.

New Product For For Plastic Repair – SEMA 2012 – MS-2500 Magna-Stitcher

November 20, 2012 by admin Leave a Comment

I saw this new plastic repair system and shot a video of it at SEMA 2012. This is a complete system that comes with everything you need to repair and reinforce the backside of plastic repairs.

The MS-2500 is made in the USA and professional quality. This is a complete system will all power and accessories needed for structural repair and plastic components.

This plastic repair system can be used to repair bumpers, fascias, spoilers, headlamp and radiator brackets, interior and underbody parts, wheel wells, panel mounted tabs and any thermoplastic part.

I am going to try the system out soon to see how it works. If you do not already have a stud welder gun for the Magna Stitcher or want a lighter weight hand held devise with the extra features, then this may be an option for you to consider.

You should be able to order one soon from your http://MotorGuard.com dealer or by CLICKING HERE

Plastic Repair: How To Fix Cracks, Tears, Rips in Plastic With The New (Magna Stitcher) – SEMA 2011

December 23, 2011 by AutoBodyAndPaintVideos 1 Comment

Plastic repair made easy.  That’s right, Motor Guard’s new tool, Magna Stitcher, has made repairing plastic parts much easier.

This is a new tool I saw at SEMA 2011 that I found interesting.  The Magna Stitcher is designed to reinforce and repair the back side of ripped, torn, or cracked plastic in a matter of minutes.

Watch this video in full screen http://CollisionBlast.com/MagnaFullScreen

The way this works is by heating a small metal stake and melting it into the damaged area.  Just like the name, it stitches the repair together.  This eliminates the need of determine the exact type of plastic it is or trying to find plastic rod sticks the best, as when plastic welding.  The Magna Stitcher also eliminates the need for prepping, grinding, sanding, or waiting for the repair to dry, as with adhesives.

This makes plastic repair much faster and easier.  All you have to do it stitch the back side, flip the part around and repair the front side with what ever method you have been using.

Another advantage I see this system has is the savings.  We usually use plastic repair adhesives and fiber reinforcement material to repair the back sides of plastic parts.  This method works well, but the adhesives are not cheap.  With the Magna Stitcher, the only cost you will have in the back side of the repair is the metal stakes used on it.

I see other uses for this tool, which I will be exploring when I return to school and I will post more about the new tool.

If you are interested in this tool, ask your local paint and body supplier to check into it for you.  I don’t think it’s on the market yet, but it will be soon.

ABRN HOW2 – Selecting The Correct Rod For Plastic Welding

December 25, 2010 by admin 1 Comment

In this ABRN How2 edition, plastic repair is going to be covered.  One of the biggest concerns when repairing plastics is proper adhesion.  This includes welding and adhesive repair methods.  Each method requires specific steps and/or test to assure  maximum adhesion to the repair area.

ABRN, Ohio Technical College, and Butler Community College have joined forces to bring you the ABRN HOW2.  OTC demonstrates how to test the different types of filler rod to be used on the type of plastic being repaired.  These simple test will help you determine the correct rod.  However, one problem with plastic is that there may be several types of plastic combined into a part, which can make it hard to determine the exact type of plastic.  That is why using the test as mentioned in the video is the best way to make rod selection.

Be sure to register to our website  check back often to watch more how-to videos provided by OTC and BCC.  You can also click the HOW2 link in the sidebar to watch previous ABRN HOW2 videos.

ABRN HOW2 Tip – Plastic Welding – Repair

November 19, 2010 by admin 5 Comments

In this ABRN HOW2 tip Ohio Technical College demonstrate how to weld plastic. There is a lot of plastic used on modern vehicles and probably more plastics and composites will be used in future vehicle designs. Love it or hate it, there is a lot of it on the roads everyday involved in auto accidents. Therefore, properly repairing plastics is an important part of collision repair technology training.

In this video Ohio Technical Instructor, Gerald Kimbro, and student, Nathan Sears, are going to demonstrate how to repair plastic using a plastic welding method.

It is awesome that ABRN, Ohio Technical College, and Butler Community College have partnered together to help educate others with ABRN HOW2. Help good things spread……Give Us A Thumbs Up, Comment, and Share on Facebook and Twitter.
