Vision High-Tech Training and Expo – Mechanical and Collision Training

December 3, 2010 by admin Leave a Comment

This training event was sent to me by ASA and I wanted to share it with our readers as well.  I have attending the collision training and highly recommend it to others involved in the collision repair industry.  Vision also provides a huge training event for the mechanical side of the auto industry.  I’ve heard that it is outstanding too.

I am not 1oo% sure, but I think I heard that Jody DeVere and Bob Cooper, expert authors on this blog, will be attending classes or giving presentation at Vision 2011. If you’re attending let us know by posting a comment at the bottom of this post.

Happy Thanksgiving From Collision Blast

November 25, 2010 by admin 1 Comment

I found this YouTube video about the 1st Thanksgiving and I decided to post it on here for you all.  Despite all of the negative things we face today, such as the economy, unemployment, etc., lets focus on what we have to be thankful for today.  I bet everyone can think of at least five things that they are thankful about.  I challenge you to examine your self and post something that you’re thankful for or positive news about your business.

It’s great to read stories of how the collision repair industry gives back by helping others.  For example, Service King and A&J Collision Repair are helping families by providing them a vehicle with the  Recycled Rides program.  We may never know how big of an impact these acts of kindness have on these families.  I would like to thank these businesses and all of the other businesses that give back and help other people that are in need.

If your collision repair shop or collision repair school is doing something cool and/or exciting, post it for us.  We all know that there is a lot of negative news in the media and even about collision repair businesses……let’s make positive news spread faster…..all boosting and bragging allowed!

Happy Thanksgiving To All

ABRN HOW2 Perform a Lab Weld

November 23, 2010 by Butler--BCRN 3 Comments

ABRN and Butler Community College have partnered together to bring you the ABRN HOW2 tips.  In this student led video Kevin and Todd, BCC students,  demonstrate how to perform a stitch weld and triggering technique.  This technique is used to prevent the metal from overheating, which is a concern in the automotive industry.  Overheating can result in warping or weakening certain types of metal.

Stitch welding allows the technician to weld a 1/2 to 3/4 weld in one area, then move to another area to weld while the previous weld cools.  Triggering allow the technician to get proper penetration without overheating the metal.

The students practice these weld on metal coupons as shown in the video.  Then the welds are destructive tested to determine if metal is properly welded.

Auto Market Weekly – It’s A Time To Give And A Time To Receive

November 20, 2010 by admin 1 Comment

Auto Market Weekly is brought to you by SearchAutoParts.com and AutoNetTV.com.

There is a lot of positive news this week. It’s all about awards and prizes. I guess that it is that time of year…..you know, a time to give and a time to receive. Well, Dave’s Towing, a shop in Pennsylvania, hit it big by winning the Surf or Turf Sweepstakes. Dave will have his choice of a boat or a Chevrolet Colorado pick-up….Way to go Dave!

Snap-On is working with Toys for Tots by collecting and delivering toys to help less fortunate kids wake up to a bright and exciting Christmas Day. This may answer many children hopes, wishes, and prayers this Christmas. Perhaps even make an impact on their lives. Thanks for your effort and support to help make this happen Snap-On.

Next, Bridgerland Applied Technology College in Logan Utah won a $50,000 education makeover award by the Collision Repair Education Foundation. This award will allow the college to makeover their collision repair program. That is a dream come true for any collision repair program. Kudos to Briderland!

This is a lot of great news….I bet we can spread good news in the collision repair industry faster than the bad news. Help us out…Like It, Comment, and Share on Facebook and Twitter….Let’s Make It Happen! 🙂

ABRN HOW2 Tip – Plastic Welding – Repair

November 19, 2010 by admin 5 Comments

In this ABRN HOW2 tip Ohio Technical College demonstrate how to weld plastic. There is a lot of plastic used on modern vehicles and probably more plastics and composites will be used in future vehicle designs. Love it or hate it, there is a lot of it on the roads everyday involved in auto accidents. Therefore, properly repairing plastics is an important part of collision repair technology training.

In this video Ohio Technical Instructor, Gerald Kimbro, and student, Nathan Sears, are going to demonstrate how to repair plastic using a plastic welding method.

It is awesome that ABRN, Ohio Technical College, and Butler Community College have partnered together to help educate others with ABRN HOW2. Help good things spread……Give Us A Thumbs Up, Comment, and Share on Facebook and Twitter.
