Pay It Forward…That’s What It’s All About…Let’s Hook Em’ Up!!

January 7, 2011 by admin Leave a Comment

You know, it seems like every time I turn the news on I see negative things. We’re facing budget issues, job losses, which leads to higher crime rates, political issues, etc. It goes no and on.  I think if we would spend less time thinking about ourselves and more time looking for ways to help others, we’d live in a much better place.

With that said, we have a collision repair technology program that has reached out and is helping someone less fortunate out. A 15 year old boy was burnt in a fire trying to save other family members. During this fire, his car was damaged.  This is where it gets cool, a student at the collision repair program decided to pay it forward by restoring the car that was damaged during the fire. Get this, they don’t even know the kid that was burned.

I love  the TV show Overhaulin’,  but this is the real deal man. No fame, no money, just wanting to help someone out. They mention needing a little funding to give the car a few extras…..let’s hook them up. Let’s help these guys make it happen. READ FULL STORY

I tried to set up a PayPal donation fund, but I could not get it working correctly.  However, I encourage you to contact the instructor directly.  Be sure to let me know what you donated so I can include it on the website an keep up with the story .

It’s always refreshing to hear how the collision repair industry steps out and helps others.  I know that CARSTAR and Service King have been mentioned on this website for acts of kindness.  There have been many shops help out with the recycled rides program.  They get it!  KUDOS to the shops and schools out there that give back.

PPG Waterborne Paint – To Be Or Not To Be

August 8, 2010 by Donnie Smith Leave a Comment

We are in the process of switching to PPG waterborne paint at our collision repair program at Buter Community College.  PPG mentioned switching us out over the summer when no students were here, but we are still waiting and school is going to start soon.  I am sure that they have a plan as they appeared to be excited to switch us to waterborne.  I know that I am!

Why Did Butler Decide To Switch To Waterborne?
After our advisory board advised up to make the switch and our college looking for ways to become more “green” environmental friendly, I decided to attended a class at the PPG training center to learn more about the waterborne paint.  Seeing how well it performed, it was just a matter of getting PPG to switch us out.

Getting Involved With Waterborne
Butler offered a waterborne training workshop  last semester for other instructors to attend in the state of Kansas.  PPG helped out by setting up a waterborne mixing system and demonstrated how to spray the paint.  PPG took all of the paint with them, but they left the mixing shelf behind.  Therefore,  we have one piece of the equipment, so I know they will be back!  I just hope before the students return, which is soon.

Any other shops or schools switching to waterborne out there?  I spoke with the collision repair instructor from Francis Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City several years ago.  He said that they switched and really liked the waterborne paint.  Hopefully, I can tell you more about it in the months to come.

If you have had any experiences, good or bad, we’d like to hear them.  Leave us a comment with your feedback.  Also, be sure to give us a thumbs up on the like button and share us on twitter.
