I am glad to see that more people are realizing how crucial career and technical education is for our educational system .  Career and technical education has had ups and down, but the No Child Left Behind act, forced educators to focus on academics, which smothered our many of the technical education programs, like collision repair, welding, auto technology, etc.  The mentality was that everyone student was going to seek a 4 year college degree, which resulted in many students falling through the cracks.  However, it looks like that may be changing for Kansas.  Here is one of the statements made in a meeting held in Olathe, Kansas.  “It has to allow the students to determine what their goal in life is.  If their goal is not to go to college but want to be a veterinary technician or a draftsman, if that’s their goal why don’t we encourage that? Instead of wasting time and money having them go to a four year college when they don’t need that.” Read the Full Report

This is the kind of news that I like to hear, as I am a firm believer that a four year degree is not a fit for everyone.  There are other options out there to provide a successful career.  And technical education is a solution to solve this problem.
