On our final day of our Daytona Bike Week 2010 coverage, we cruised down to the Daytona 200 to catch the big race. Graves Yamaha’s Josh Herrin took home his first career victory, but only after some chaos from start to finish. Pole-setter Martin Cardenas and four other riders went down just a few seconds into the race at Turn 2. That spill forced a complete red-flag restart for the group, prompting the pit teams to re-cover tires to keep them warm for the 50-something-degree track. Pit stops played a huge part in the race, as small mistakes cost some of the riders precious time. For Yamaha rider Tommy Aquino, one small mistake actually forced him to not finish the race, as his quick-fill gas cap got stuck in an open position and soaked him and his bike in fuel. In the second round of pit stops, Herrin and Project 1 Atlanta Yamaha rider Dane Westby entered at the exact same time. Working ferociously, Herrin’s pit crew got him a two-second jump on Westby and he never looked back. You can catch all the Daytona 200 action on SpeedTV.
