Benjamin Franklin once famously noted that “nothing in this world is certain except death and taxes.” To this list we could probably add “auto collisions.” Although the number of motor vehicle accidents (and fatalities) have dropped markedly over the past 30 years, there are still approximately 10.2 million car crashes and collisions every year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau 2011 Statistical Abstract.*As long as people continue to damage their cars, there will be a need for people to repair them. Helping to fill the need for collision and repair specialists is WyoTech in Sacramento, Calif.WyoTech’s Collision/Refinishing Technology ProgramWyoTech’s Collision/Refinishing Technology program offered at the school’s Sacramento campus prepares students to effectively handle the tools and repair techniques of the trade so that they are capable of repairing collision-damaged cars and trucks to pre-accident condition. Skills and experience students acquire over the 12-month program provides the necessary training for entry-level positions at independent collision repair centers, dealership collision repair centers, auto specialty shops and similar facilities. They could also become employed on the “other side of the desk,” working for insurance companies as damage appraisers.
All learning is done in modern facilities that provide plenty of hands-on training under the supervision of industry pros. Students work in small groups that encourage a lot of teacher-student interaction. From repairing and replacing damaged body panels to repainting a car as needed to make it look showroom fresh, WyoTech students learn the art and science of current industry-standard collision repair and refinishing.
Upon graduation, WyoTech students can take advantage of the school’s Career Services department.
