Event to Benefit Davidson’s IGNITE Community Center for
Young Adults with High-Functioning Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome
MOORESVILLE, NC (July 26, 2013) – This fall hundreds of classic, cool and celebrity cars will roll into Davidson, N.C. for the inaugural AmeriCarna LIVE car show presented by Ingersoll Rand and MSC Industrial Supply Co., a first-of-its kind event to be held at Ingersoll Rand’s Davidson campus on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
The AmeriCarna LIVE car show is hosted by Ray Evernham, legendary NASCAR championship crew chief and team owner, long known for his creativity and innovation when it comes to cars and racing. Evernham created the car show to unite two of his passions – his support of the IGNITE Community Center he founded in honor of his son, and his new television show “AmeriCarna,” set to air on Velocity in the coming months.
“Americarna LIVE is the celebration of car culture and what better place to host it than in the town of Davidson, N.C., which personifies the classic American community,” said Ray Evernham, an avid car collector and long-time Lake Norman-area resident. “With support from our Davidson-based corporate partners Ingersoll Rand and MSC Industrial Supply Co., Americarna LIVE will serve as a great holiday activity for the whole family and also raise awareness and funding for IGNITE.”
At AmeriCarna LIVE, auto enthusiasts will have the opportunity to display their cars along side the unique rides
- 1964 Plymouth Belvedere No. 777 raced by Marty Robbins and recently restored by Evernham
- Classic Carolina Moonshine cars from the 1940s
- Select vehicles from Rick Hendrick’s automotive collection
The car show will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is $5 a person. All cars are welcome to register for the event at $25 per car. Entertainment includes live music, food trucks from local restaurants, and a kid’s area.
The AmeriCarna LIVE car show will benefit IGNITE, a new community center in Davidson for young adults with high functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger’s Syndrome (AS). IGNITE offers activities, skills training, and educational workshops that will foster social, financial, educational, and employment independence for its members. But most importantly, IGNITE offers a social environment where members can connect with others and experience a sense of community.
The “AmeriCarna” TV show will tell behind-the-scenes stories of lost race cars, barn finds, speed secrets, Hollywood films, historical racetracks and other unique places. Along the way, Evernham and his guests will meet the cars and characters that have shaped and preserved this history — from the Appalachian Moonshiners that helped build NASCAR, to the West Coast Hot Rodders and Woody Wagon surfers that defined California Cool. This unique look into America’s garage will debut on the Velocity Network on January 28, 2014 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
