We were asked to create a video years ago to try using WD40 for headlight restoration. I recently shortened the video and uploaded it to my main channel.
I’m in the process of trying to get everything to my main channel. When I was starting out, I didn’t know what I was doing…I still don’t, but I didn’t realize at the time that having multiple YouTube channels would be harder to manage.
Back to the WD40 video, after posting that, there have been a ton of WD40 headlight restoration videos claiming it works. I also claimed it worked, but it is not a long-term fix. It may get you through the night on a trip, but it is not long before the headlights are faded again.
In another video I tested WD40 and toothpaste to see which worked better. The toothpaste worked better and lasted longer. Another trick is to wax the headlight, which also extended the restoration.
For a long-term fix I think they need to be sanded and buffed. Or for a permanent fix the lens needs to be sanded and clear coated with 2K clear coat.
I shortened the WD40 headlight restoration video down to 2 minutes. So watch it real fast and let me know your thoughts on WD40 or other methods to use to clear your headlights.
