While attending the 3M Auto Boot Camp, I learned about several new products for the collision repair industry. One of the products that caught my attention is the new 3M DA sanding discs for the ceramic clear coats.
There are several high-end vehicle makers using this type of clear coat, which creates a problem when sanding the clear coat for blending. The clear coat is much harder than regular clear coat and regular sandpaper is not doing a good job of preparing the surface for additional clear coat to be applied. This will lead to adhesion failure resulting in the clear coat peeling. 3M has developed a sandpaper to correct this problem.
I am not sure if they said this sandpaper is on the market yet, if it’s not, it should be soon so keep your eyes open for it soon.
